Shower Chair

Bathing can be dangerous for anyone, especially for those requiring assistance in the shower or bathtub.   A shower chair or shower bench helps to minimize hazard by having the person sit versus stand or lay while bathing.  In the sitting position the body’s center of gravity is lower limiting the chance of a fall and it is much more accessible to one’s self or to an assistant for ease of cleaning.  However, added precaution during the bathing experience might be something a shower chair or shower bench user wants to take into consideration.
Safety, as with anything, should be the number one priority when using a shower chair or shower bench. One extra item that can add to the safety parameters while using a shower chair to bathe is the shower safety block for the shower chair.  Typically this product is made of wood with recessed holes at each end.  The front legs of the shower chair or bench are placed into the holes and the block is then placed into the tub.  The under side of the safety block is treated with a nonslip rubber material stabilizing it against the bottom of the tub, even after it gets wet;  thereby preventing any unforeseen slip of the chair causing a fall.  There are a few retailers who carry the product and a simple search should bring up more than one choice.  The  shower chair safety block is an addition that will increase the safety of the shower chair or shower bench.
