Shower Chair

Our next feature of an inspirational shower chair user comes to us from a loving couple and their walk through an ALS diagnosis.  

It’s easy to get bogged down in the ugliness that seems to be bombarded on us on a daily basis.  We can forget how blessed we are (no matter our present circumstance) and in turn, often times miss out on what life has to offer us.  Rick and Joan, is a couple who, despite their present situation, have not lost their focus on their love for one another. Rick was diagnosed with ALS or more commonly know as Lou Gehrig’s Disease on February 1, 2008. Since his diagnoses his body has begun to atrophy. He has encountered many challenges along he way and will encounter more to come. In the first year, his mobility began to wain. A scooter, walker, and motorized wheelchair were his means of getting from one place to another. In his second year bathing became a challenging task, so the shower chair became a helpful aid. This year, his third, he is unable to do much of anything without aid.  But the most effective and uplifting aid through all of his challenges has been, Joan.

Commitment and unconditional love, it seems,are missing from most marriages today.  In a world of instant gratification, the journey is often overlooked for the finish line.  But its in the journey that happiness is actually found.   The spiritual connection is missed due to a incessant focus on time constraining work and career.  Yet, that paycheck cannot bring the deep peace that loving someone unconditionally can. 

In the blog titled, Together Forever, you will find one, courageous and heart-warming couple.  Their journey might seem like one of pain and anguish at first glance; as they are encountering some very difficult challenges.  Take a closer look though.  And I think you will find something that all of us are looking for.  Something that people cry for, beg for, and yearn for.  You will find a couple who is bound and committed through their love for one another, eternally.  A couple who doesn’t just tell the fairy tale of love everlasting, but lives it.  Thank you for sharing your story, Rick and Joan.
